TCHS Volleyball Has Busy Start To Season

The Toombs County High School volleyball team started their season with a bang, securing two impressive victories over region opponents the week before last. The team swept both Woodville-Tompkins and Bryan County in straight sets, winning 2517, 25-22 against Woodville- Tompkins and 25-17, 26-24 against Bryan County. But they lost both matches on Thursday to Southeast Bulloch and Appling County.

Last week they fell to Savannah Christian and St. Vincent's on Tuesday, and then fell to Ware County and Appling County on Thursday at home.

Tuesday, August 13 vs. Woodville-Tompkins In the match against Woodville-Tompkins, the Lady Netdawgs showcased excellent serving, putting 41 of their 43 serves in play with only two service errors. The team also delivered seven aces, led by Madison Brown and Maritza Zamorano with two aces each. Makayla Brewton, Arianna Hill, and Gracie Petersen each contributed one ace. Hill also led the team with five kills, demonstrating her offensive prowess. vs. Bryan Co.

Against Bryan County, the Netdawgs continued their strong play. Makayla Brewton led the way with seven service points, five of them being aces, and added two kills. Arianna Hill chipped in with three kills and a dig, while Alivia Patrick added two kills. Maritza Zamorano and Emma Wright each recorded an ace, and Madison Brown added a kill to round out the team’s balanced attack.

With these two wins, the Lady Netdawgs start the season 2-0 overall and in region play.

Thursday, August 15

The Toombs County Lady Netdawgs faced a challenging night in Baxley on Thursday, August 15, 2024, where they took on Southeast Bulloch and Appling County. Despite battling hard, the Lady Netdawgs fell in straight sets in both matches. Southeast Bulloch edged them out 25-23 and 25-17, while Appling County claimed victory with scores of 25-9 and 27-25. vs. SE Bulloch

In the match against Southeast Bulloch, Elide Cruz led the team with 7 service points, including 3 aces, while serving at an impressive 90% accuracy (9-10). Makayla Brewton also contributed 3 aces, a kill, and 2 digs, serving at 71%. Gracie Petersen added 1 ace and maintained a perfect serving percentage, going 4-for-4. vs. Appling Co.

Against Appling County, Madison Brown was a standout with 1 ace and a perfect 5-for-5 on serves. Emma Wright also had a solid performance, going 4-for-4 on serves, along with 5 digs and 2 kills. Brewton continued her strong play with 1 ace, 5 digs, and 2 kills, while Arianna Hill contributed 2 kills. Defensively, Gracie Petersen and Alivia Patrick both chipped in with 3 digs each.

Tuesday, August 20

The Lady Netdawgs faced a challenging night in Savannah, dropping both matches in straight sets. Savannah Christian handed Toombs County a 25-13, 25-4 defeat, while St. Vincent’s claimed the second match with scores of 25-13 and 25-11. vs. Savannah Christian

Despite the tough losses, the Lady Netdawgs showed resilience, particularly in their serving against Savannah Christian, where the team had a perfect night, going 18-for-18. Unfortunately, Savannah Christian excelled at converting serves into points. Offensively, Arianna Hill recorded the team’s only kill in that match, while the defense tallied 10 digs, with Makayla Brewton, Maggie Rodriguez, and Elide Cruz each contributing two digs. vs. St. Vincent's

In the second match against St. Vincent’s, the Lady Netdawgs managed six kills—two each from Makayla Brewton and Arianna Hill, and one apiece from Madison Brown and Alivia Patrick. Hill also notched Toombs County’s only ace in the match, while Brown added two blocks to the defensive effort.

Overall, the Lady Netdawgs had a solid serving night, finishing 34-for-38 with an 89.5% accuracy rate.

Thursday, August 22

On Thursday, August 22, the Lady NetDawgs hosted home matches against Ware County and Appling County. Despite playing hard and maintaining solid serving, the Lady NetDawgs fell in both matches. Ware County took the win with scores of 25-15 and 25-17, while Appling County secured victory with scores of 2513 and 25-21.

Throughout both matches, the Lady Net-Dawgs displayed impressive serving consistency, achieving a 93% serve-in rate (58 out of 62 serves). vs. Ware Co.

Arianna Hill led the way for the Lady Net-Dawgs, contributing 3 kills, 3 service points, 2 aces, and a block. Alivia Patrick added 2 kills, while Makayla Brewton and Madison Brown each chipped in with a kill. Brewton also had 3 service points, an ace, and 2 digs, while Brown added 3 service points and 2 digs of her own. vs. Appling Co.

In the second match, Arianna Hill again led the team with 5 kills, 2 service points, a block, an assist, and a dig. Alivia Patrick contributed 3 kills, a block, and a dig. Brewton added 2 kills and a dig. Emma Wright was active as well, recording 3 service points, 2 aces, 2 assists, and 2 digs. Maritza Zamorano rounded out the effort with 4 service points, an ace, and an assist.

Though the results weren’t in their favor, the Lady NetDawgs demonstrated resilience and consistency, particularly in their serving game. The team will look to bounce back in their upcoming matches as they continue their season.

This week they faced off with Savannah Classical Academy and Coastal Homeschool on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday as they travel to take on Wayne County at 5:00 p.m. and then Savannah County Day at 7:00 p.m.
