The Montgomery County High School Eagles football team hosted the Trojans of Johnson County last Friday night. The Eagles took the early lead, but couldn't keep the offense going as Johnson came back and went on to win the game.

The MCHS defense pushed Johnson back on their first possession of the game with a sack and then a fumble on the snap. They had to punt out of their own end zone to set the Eagles up with great field position for their first drive of the game.

A nice run from Elijah McEwen down to the 16yard line set up a touchdown pass from Eric White to Jordyn Patterson into the corner of the end zone for the first score of the game. MCHS missed the extra point, but they held a 6-0 lead with 6:05 left in the first quarter.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Eagles pooch kicked the ball, and it bounced into the hands of MCHS's Juman Coglin. But the Eagles' offense couldn't get going as they turned the ball over on down around the Trojans' 40-yard line.

MCSH held the 6-0 lead over the rest of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Trojans found the end zone for their first score of the game, and they added another with four minutes to go in the half as they took a 13-0 lead over the Eagles.

By the end of the third quarter, the Trojans had extended their lead to 25-6. The Trojans added a safety in the fourth quarter on their way to a 27-6 victory over the Eagles.

Coglin was the only bright spot for the MCHS offense on the night as he rushed for 102 yards on 12 carries.

This week the Eagles will host Atkinson County on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
