Warriors Down Vikings
The Treutlen County Vikings football team traveled to Irwinton last Friday to take on the Warriors of Wilkinson County. The Vikings couldn’t get the offense going as they fell to the Warriors, 29-7.
Wilkinson didn’t take long to get on the board as they went down the field and put their first touchdown on the board on a 17-yard run just two minutes into the game. They added the two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead over Treutlen.
The Warriors were on the board again with 4:26 left in the first quarter as they ran it in from nine yards out. They added the two-point conversion to make it a 16-0 lead.
It was a defensive struggle over the rest of the first half of the game as the two teams went to halftime with the Warriors on top 16-0.
Wilkinson added a touchdown late in the third quarter to extend their lead to 22-0. They added another touchdown with 9:38 left in the fourth quarter. The Warriors tacked on the extra point to take a 29-0 lead.
Treutlen finally got on the board with just over five minutes left in the contest when Roderick Fuller broke a 37-yard run for the score. Leo Brinson added the extra point to make the score 29-7. Treutlen didn’t manage to find the end zone again as they fell to the Warriors, 29-7.
This week the Vikings will be playing at home on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. They will host the Red Raiders of Bacon County in Soperton.
