The Brewton-Parker College Men's Golf team started their season yesterday with the Truett McConnell University Invitational. The Barons sent nine golfers to the invite, and they faced off against not just themselves and the course, but golfers from Bryan College, Erskine College, Toccoa Falls College, Truett, and Montreat at the Apple Mountain Golf Club.

The Barons sent Brinson Burdette, Anthony Cecchin, Arvid Dale, James Duggan, Nick Hofman, Trent Jenkins, Jesper Larsson, Grant Reynolds, Ben Searle, and Andrew Valesquez to this tournament to start the golf season.

Coach Mark Davidson shared his thoughts on his players' performance and what the opening invite means for the team this season. 'Although it was extremely hot in North Georgia, our top five guys finished with an impressive even par, 72, average in the one-day exhibition match at Apple Mountain Resort. Several of our guys had never played a collegiate competitive round prior but showed some real potential. Jesper Larsson and Ben Searle led the team, shooting one under for the round. Overall, the team looks much improved, and I look forward to a successful season.'

After 18 holes, the Barons players played well and had a strong showing, with two players shooting under par, one shooting par, and two only one over on the day. Jesper Larsson and Ben Searle led the team, each shooting a 71 for one under on the day, followed closely by Anthony Cecchin, shooting par. James Duggan and Nick Hofman were each one stroke off par on the day with a 73. Arvid Dale was close behind with a 75, and Grant Reynolds shot a 78. Brinson Burdette shot an 81, Andrew Velesquez shot an 84, and Trent Jenkins shot a 91.

The Barons have plenty of opportunities to improve and look to do just that across the board. They get back in action on September 9 at the Coastal Georgia Fall Invitational.
