Crusaders Win Over Jaguars

The Crusaders football team of Robert Toombs Christian Academy dominated the Jaguars of Thomas Jefferson Academy in Louisville last Friday night. RTCA was in complete control of the game on the way to a big 56-13 win. RTCA racked up 423 total yards on the night with Justin Powell rushing for 200 of those yards on the ground.

RTCA got on the board first as Powell picked up his first touchdown of the game early in the first quarter, taking it in from 11 yards out. Hayden Meeks tacked on the PAT to put RTCA on top 7-0.

The Jaguars quickly answered as they took the ensuing kickoff and returned it 97 yards for a touchdown. They added the extra point to tie the game at 7-7.

RTCA then began to pull away as Powell scored on their next drive from 24 yards out, and then he added another touchdown later in the first quarter on a 66-yard run. Meeks made both extra points as RTCA increased their lead to 21-7.

In the second quarter, it was another big run from Powell as he went 73 yards for his fourth touchdown of the game. Meeks again made the PAT to make the score 27- 7.

Midway through the second quarter, TJ found the end zone again, this time on a passing play. They, however, missed the extra point, and RTCA was on top 28-13.

RTCA put one more touchdown on the board in the first half of play as Christian Mixon got in on the scoring as he broke a 34-yard run for the score. Meeks was true again on the extra point to increase the lead to 3513.

In the third quarter, the Crusaders added a defensive touchdown on an interception return for a score. Meeks made yet another extra point as RTCA was on top, 42-13.

Mixon pushed that lead to 49-13 after scoring on a 55-yard touchdown run, with Meeks adding the PAT. RTCA scored one final time in the fourth quarter with Drew Edwards taking it in from 16 yards out for the touchdown. Meeks made his eighth extra point of the game to give RTCA a 56-13 lead.

That was the way the game ended with RTCA dominating the Jaguars. Powell rushed for his 200 yards on just 7 carries. Mixon added 92 yards on the ground on 5 touches. Quarterback Blake Durden was 3 of 7 passing for 44 yards.

This week RTCA will travel to Statesboro to take on the Gators Bulloch Academy. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
