The Lady Barons Soccer team of Brewton-Parker College returned after their tough loss to start the season with a much-improved team performance. Despite all of the progress made, the Lady Barons still came up short against SMC one to nothing to bring their season record to (0-2-0), and they have yet to start conference play. The Lady Barons solved some eligibility issues they faced before their first game. They looked like a completely different team, with an invigorated attack and pressure that had the fans excited for what was to come the rest of the year.

Coach Phillip Borde said, 'First and foremost, I just want to thank God for allowing us to play this beautiful game. I'm proud of the performance that our girls displayed. It is still early in the season, and they are growing together as a unit. We will work on what we need to improve, but overall, it was a good starting place. I am happy with the performance, and we will continue to grow as a unit.'

The Lady Barons managed the game well and saw more spectacular saves from the always composed and confident Angel Camacho. The first half saw Angel make eight saves, and SMC took four corner kicks. There were no fouls called, and the game went back and forth. Spartanburg held the edge in corners for the first half four to nothing, but a great shot and rebound for the Pioneers left Angel no chance to recover when Addie Hawkins scored to take a one-goal lead in the 7th minute. The goal would stand to be the game-winner.

The second half showed the Pioneers and Barons each limited in scoring chances, with both sides playing well in the midfield, pushing each other back and forth, with SMC having two shots on net, both pushed aside by Angel, and the Barons having one shot that their keeper was able to handle. The corner kick discrepancy was just as significant in the second half, with the Pioneers taking six versus the Barons taking one. The fouls escalated in the second half as the Barons chased an equalizer, and the Pioneers looked to add some insurance to their lead. The second half ended with the Barons taking six fouls and the Pioneers taking seven. The Pioneers were also given a yellow card with just under three minutes left in the game.

Total shots: the Pioneers led 20-2 with 11 on net and just one on net for the Barons. Corner kicks were 10-1 in favor of the Pioneers. Angel made ten saves. Fouls ended with the Pioneers taking 7 to the Barons 6.

The Lady Barons return to the grind with a road trip next week. They will face Bethel University on September 5 and Freed-Hardeman on September 7.
