TCHS Esports Gears Up for Fall Season

The Toombs County High School Bulldogs Esports team is gearing up for an exciting Fall 2024 season, building on the momentum from a remarkable 2023/2024 year. Last season, the Bulldogs made waves by finishing as the Georgia State Runner-Up in the Fall, securing a 3rd place finish at the GHSA Esports State Championships in the Spring, and achieving a milestone of 600 wins in program history. Additionally, the program celebrated its first-ever player to receive a full athletic scholarship to continue his esports career in college.
This season, the Bulldogs are starting with their largest roster to date, comprising 27 players. They are also introducing a new title, chess.com, to their competitive lineup. The Bulldogs’ Splatoon 3 team, the most successful in the program’s history, will look to continue their dominance after achieving two state runnerup finishes and two GHSA State Championship appearances in the last two years. While the team will miss four-year starter Christian Castro, who graduated, they are confident in the leadership of returning juniors Carson Bratton and Jack Williams as they strive to secure their first state title.
In addition to Splatoon 3, the Bulldogs are looking to improve their performance in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate after a second-round exit in the GHSA State playoffs last spring. Junior Benjamin Stanfield will lead the charge in this title, aiming to push the team further in the competition.
The Bulldogs are also making a return to Rocket League, a title absent from their lineup since Spring 2023. This season, the team will compete in a newly classified league, which brings fresh opportunities for success. Senior Cristobal Munoz will lead the Rocket League squad as they look to regain their status as playoff contenders.
New to the Bulldogs’ lineup this fall is chess.com, now an official GHSA Esports title. With a young team led by freshmen Ian Barton and Alona Wright, the Bulldogs are eager to make their mark in this new title. The Bulldogs will kick off their season with a scrimmage against Central Hardin High School from Cecilia, Kentucky, on Wednesday. The official esports preseason in Georgia is set to begin the week of September 9.
