TCHS Volleyball Splits Matches

The Toombs County High School Bulldogs volleyball teams took on Savannah Classical Academy and Wayne County last week. Toombs picked up wins over SCA on Tuesday, but fell to Wayne on Thursday.

Vs. SCA

On Tuesday night, the Lady NetDawgs traveled to Savannah Classical Academy for JV and Varsity matches. The JV team started the evening strong, winning their sets 25-8 and 25-21. Alayla Avellaneda led the JV squad with impressive serves and solid allaround play. The Varsity team continued the winning streak, taking their match in three sets with scores of 25-15, 25-17, and 2512. Elida Cruz was outstanding from the service line, recording 14 service points, including 9 aces. Madison Brown added 10 service points with 4 aces, and Maritza Zamorano contributed 8 service points and 2 aces.

Zamorano also led the team with 6 assists, while Emma Wright chipped in with 4 assists. At the net, Arianna Hill delivered 6 kills, Makayla Brewton added 4 kills, and Alivia Patrick contributed 2 kills. Despite a successful night, the team did experience a setback with a player suffering a dislocated finger, though she is expected to return soon. Overall, it was a strong showing for the Lady NetDawgs.

They will be back in action on Thursday at Wayne County where they will square off against Wayne County and Brantley County.

Vs. Wayne

Both the JV and Varsity Lady NetDawgs made the trip to Jesup, despite being down three players due to injuries and illnesses. The matches were intense, with both Toombs County and Wayne County showing determination and playing hard.

The JV team fought valiantly but lost in straight sets, 25-15 and 25-21. It was a night where no single player stood out because the entire team performed well and showed improvement.

The Varsity squad, despite missing a key starter, had one of their best nights as a team, playing with energy and tenacity across the court. The match was a thrilling five-set battle, with the Lady NetDawgs narrowly losing (18-25, 26-24, 2517, 25-20, 11-15).

Arianna Hill led the team with 7 kills, 2 blocks, 2 aces, and 8 service points. Elida Cruz contributed 10 service points and 3 aces, while Gracie Petersen added 12 service points and 2 aces. Makayla Brewton had 4 service points, 2 blocks, and 2 kills. Madison Brown was also strong, with 8 service points, 3 aces, a block, and a kill. Alivia Patrick rounded out the attack with 5 kills.

The Lady NetDawgs will be back in action on Tuesday at Savannah Country Day. JV plays at 4 PM, followed by Varsity matches at 5 PM and 7 PM. The team’s current record stands at 3-7 overall and 3-2 in regional play.
