Vikings Fall To Red Raiders

The Vikings football team of Treutlen County High School hosted the Red Raiders of Bacon County last Friday night. The Vikings played well and made a run in the third quarter but could not come away with a win over Bacon. This was also the first ever meeting between these two teams.

Bacon got on the scoreboard on the first play of the game as they broke a 66-yar run for the touchdown. They added the extra point to take a 7-0 lead over Treutlen. Bacon added to that lead later in the first quarter as they capped off a drive with a 7-yard run for a touchdown. The tacked on the PAT for a 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter, the Raiders picked up another score, this time on defense, as they intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown. With the extra point, they held a 21-0 lead over the Vikings.

Treutlen did manage to get on the scoreboard before the end of the first half. With just under two minutes on the clock, the Vikings scored on a 46yard pass from Kavion Peeples to Jordan Coney. Leo Brinson added the extra point to close the lead to 21-7.

At the start of the second half, the Vikings had the ball and drove 70 yards for a touchdown. They took it in for the score on a 17-yard run by Kylan Page. Treutlen missed the extra point, but the Vikings now trailed, 21-13.

Bacon added another touchdown with 3:40 left in the third on a 7-yard run. That pushed their lead back out to 28-13.

Truetlen quickly answered as Rod Fuller broke free for a 78-yard touchdown run. Page added a two-point conversion on a run as Treutlen closed the lead back to just 7, at 28-21.

In the fourth quarter, the Vikings had chances, but two turnovers hurt the offense. Bacon added a field goal late in the game as the Raiders took the win over Treutlen, 31- 21.

The Vikings are off this week and will be back in action next week when they travel to Wrightsville to take on the Trojans of Johnson County with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
