The Brewton-Parker College Lady Barons volleyball team picked up two more wins last week as they won over Claflin University and Savannah State. vs. Claflin
The Lady Barons Volleyball team continued their dominance to start the season with another road win against Claflin University. The Lady Barons won in three straight sets to take another win and start the year three and zero. The Lady Barons have started their season with their feet on the gas pedal and show no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Coach Obed Quiles shared his thoughts on the team's performance after the game: 'We did a great job serving today and were able to take them out of system because of it. Offensively, we did a good job moving the ball. There will always be things we can work on offensively, but the team will learn and help each other as we get more comfortable. Now, we need to put this win behind us and focus on our next opponent.'
The Lady Barons started the match against Claflin with a strong performance, winning the first set 25-8 and looking in control the entire time. The Lady Barons had a great 12 kills, with only one error in the first set. Claflin did their best, but their five kills and nine errors left them struggling to keep up with our Lady Barons.
The Lady Barons allowed themselves to play more into Claflin's game, showing a much closer result in set two. Despite that, they still held on to win 25-22 and continued their winning ways. Sporting another 12 kills and five errors this set, they were enough to put them over Claflin's 11 kills and six errors. Claflin did everything possible to even up the sets and could not stop the Lady Barons.
The Lady Barons could feel the end was near and showed poise and determination as they went about claiming another sweep. The third set went similar to the second set and saw a closer game on the scoreboard. The Lady Barons managed to break ahead and cruise to victory 25-19 on the backs of another impressive 12 kills, with seven errors. Claflin could not keep up as the Lady Barons forced them into making ten errors and only had four kills.
The Lady Barons had 12 kills in each set. The Lady Barons finished with seven aces on the day. Claflin and the Barons each ended with two blocks apiece. The Barons had 33 assists, with an impressive 28 coming from Raphaela Felisberto Jordan Kinsley led the game with 24 of the Lady Baron's 58 digs on the night. vs. Savannah
The Lady Barons Volleyball team continued their streak with their fourth straight sweep, breaking a program record of most sweeps to start a season.
Coach Obed Quiles shared his thoughts on the team's performance after the game: 'I'm proud of the team and how they competed tonight. We continue to get better each and every day. The atmosphere in the gym tonight was electric. Thank you to all of the fans and coaches who came out to support us. They made us better with the energy they brought to the game for our team.'
The Lady Barons started the match against Savannah State with the closest first set all season, coming out to a 25-15 win. This was the first time the Lady Barons had been forced into a tight match from the start of the game. Their double-digit dominance continued with 11 kills in the first set and a kill percentage of .300. The Barons out matched the Tigers and forced eight errors in the first set.
The Lady Barons were given their first test of the season in keeping their composure and looked like their incredible sweep start might be in jeopardy, but despite tough attacks from the Tigers, the Lady Barons rallied and showed utter determination to win the second set 25-19. The Lady Barons had eight kills and a kill percentage of .250 for the second set.
The Lady Barons could feel the crowd's excitement in their home opener and channeled the energy into the third and final set of the night to win 25-21. Despite the Tigers best efforts to steal a set and ruin history in the making, the Lady Barons responded with another great showing of 11 kills and a kill percentage of .273. The Tigers could do little to stop the energy in Gillis's gym as the Lady Barons cruised to another victory.
The Lady Barons had 30 kills on the night. The Lady Barons finished with six aces on the night. The Lady Barons led with three blocks to the Tigers two. The Barons had 27 assists and saw another great performance from Raphaela Felisberto with 22. The Lady Barons ended the game with an impressive Kill percentage average of .273.
The Lady Barons will play at Life University on September 13, hoping to keep the streak alive.
