First Baptist Church of Vidalia to Celebrate 150th Anniversary with Events September 15-22

First Baptist Church of Vidalia will celebrate its 150th anniversary with a week of activities, September 15-22.

On Sunday, September 15, the congregation will hold a special service celebrating the relationship between Vidalia Heritage Academy (VHA) and the church. On “VHA Day,” students from the school will help lead the worship service at 10:30 a.m. in the worship center on the First Baptist main campus downtown.

On Wednesday, September 18, a “Family Festival” will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on the VHA green space located at the corner of Jackson Street and Georgia Highway 280 (First Street). Families are invited to enjoy games, rides, ice cream and more.

On Thursday, September 19, a “Women’s Event with Masey McLain” will be held from 6:30 until 8 p.m. at the church’s worship center. McLain, a Christian actress and screen writer, will address the questions: “What was I made for? Why am I here?” The event is for women of all ages, and mingling begins at 5:30 p.m. on the Front Porch of the worship center. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the event starts at 6:30 p.m. Child care will be available.

On Saturday, September 21, the “Men’s & Kids Fishing Rodeo & Fish Fry” will be held from 8 a.m. until noon. Men and their children and/or grandchildren will enjoy a morning of fishing, games, prizes and more, at Jake Cleghorn and Britt McDade’s place. Participants can fish from the shore or put in their boats and cast from the middle of the lake. Even those who don’t fish are welcome to come to the fish fry and enjoy a time of fellowship. Please sign up.

On Sunday, September 22, the church’s 150th anniversary observance culminates with a service beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the worship center, as the congregation and guests celebrate God’s faithfulness by looking back at where the church came from and looking forward to where it is going. The anniversary choir/orchestra will lead the congregation in worship, and a covered dish luncheon will take place in the Kid’s Bay immediately following the service. Former choir and orchestra members are invited to participate. Contact Emily Wells regarding the 8 a.m. choir and orchestra rehearsal at: Emily. wells@fbcvidalia.org. Music will be sent digitally to those wishing to join the performance.
