The Brewton-Parker College Lady Barons Soccer team traveled to Freed-Hardeman University hoping to end their losing streak and start a turnaround in the season. Sadly, the Lions had other plans and defeated the Lady Barons 3-0. The Lady Barons showed good effort and managed to keep the game close for the first half before giving up two goals in the second half.
Coach Phillip Borde said, “First and foremost I want to give thanks to God for the opportunity to play this beautiful game. Today, we showed ourselves what to work on as a coaching staff and unit. We plan to take everything we learned from our self-scout and get straight to work as the new week begins, God willing. The blessing about games like these is that you get an opportunity to reflect and look at what the potential for our team can be once we hit our stride. We will regroup and get back on the right track.
The Lady Barons managed to keep the game close after giving up an early goal in the fifth minute. Angel Camacho made four saves in the first half and did her best to keep the Lady Barons in the game. We had four shots in the first half and one corner kick. The Lady Barons did have five fouls called on them in the first half. Despite that, the match was relatively clean, with no cards being given in either half.
In the second half, the Lions again struck in the first five minutes to take a commanding twogoal lead and later scored in the 75 minute to win three-nil. The Lady Barons had more offense and had six shots in the second half for ten total and six on net. Angel made another three saves to make her total seven.
Freed-Hardeman led the game in shots 17-10. Freed-Hardeman led with six corners to BPC’s two. Brewton-Parker led the game in saves, seven to six. Brewton-Parker led in fouls nine to four.
The Barons will look to bounce back at home vs. Georgia Southwestern State University on September 14.
