Lady Indians Drop 4 Games

The Vidalia High School Indians softball team played five games last week, but they did not fare well as they lost four of those contests. They fell to Emanuel County Institute on Tuesday in Twin City, lost to Jeff Davis on Wednesday on the road, and then were in a tournament on Friday and Saturday. On Friday they lost to Social Circle and on Saturday dropped their first game of the day to Harlem, but they came back with a win in the afternoon over Lakeside from Evans. vs. ECI

VHS took the early lead in the top of the first inning after an RBI single by Gabby Royal, but in the bottom of the inning, ECI plated two runs to take the lead over the Indians. ECI added a run in the third inning for a 3-1 lead over VHS.

VHS did get a few more hits in the game, but they could not string things together as they fell to the Lady Bulldogs, 3- 1. vs. Jeff Davis

This was a tough game for the Indians against one of their softball rivals, the Lady Yellow Jackets. The Jackets scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead, and that was all they needed as they kept VHS off the board.

Jeff Davis added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and two more in the sixth on the way to an 8-0 win over Vidalia. vs. Social Circle

VHS had eight hits in this game, but they were able to score only three runs. The first four innings of the game were scoreless, and in the top of the fifth, Social Circle took the lead with one run.

VHS tied the game in the bottom of the frame on an RBI double by Tori Polke, but two more runs from Social Circle in the top of the sixth inning put them on top 3-1.

Social Circle added two more in the top of the seventh inning to push their lead to 5-1. Vidalia did score two in the bottom of the seventh inning, but they could not complete the comeback as the Indians fell, 5-3. vs. Harlem

In this game, VHS took the early lead but could not hold on to take the win. VHS plated two runs in the top of the first inning off RBI hits by Laylah Brantley and Lilly Grace Maybin. VHS added two more runs in the top of the third inning to take a 4-0 lead over Harlem.

In the top of the fourth inning, it was three more runs by the Indians as they took a 7-0 lead over Harlem and looked to be in control of this game. But in the bottom of the frame, Harlem plated two runs to close the lead to 7-2, and then added five mor in the fifth inning to tie the game at 7-7.

Harlem came back to take the win in the bottom of the seventh inning with one final run to win the game, 8-7. vs. Lakeside

The Indians picked up their only win of the week in the final game of the week as they took a one-run win over Lakeside.

VHS got on the board in the top of the first inning off a sacrifice fly by Maybin. They added a run on a passed ball to lead 2-0.

Lakeside tied the game in the bottom of the second inning at 2-2, but two more runs for the Indians in the top of the third inning gave them a 4-2 lead. Polke picked up an RBI double in the inning.

Lakeside answered with one run in the bottom of the third inning to make the score 4-3, but that was all they could get in the game as VHS held on to win, 4-3.

VHS is now 6-11 overall and they are 3-2 in Region play. This week VHS was at Savannah Christian on Tuesday after press time. They will be back in action on Thursday at home against Swainsboro at 6:00 p.m., and on Saturday they will host rival Toombs County at 11:00 a.m.
