On August 24, Swainsboro Middle School played host to a chess tournament, bringing together 18 players from Vidalia High School, Trinity Christian School, and Vidalia Heritage Academy.

The five-round competition saw Ethan Hart of Vidalia High School emerge triumphant with an impressive record of 4 wins and 1 loss, securing the top position. Hampton Brannen of Trinity Christian School claimed second place with 4 wins and 1 loss, with Aidan Ellis of Vidalia High School not far behind in third with 4 wins and 1 loss.

Although he could not participate in the tournament's final round, Vidalia’s Alexander Muzafarov had a strong showing, with 4 wins and 0 losses.

Coach J.A. Youngblood expressed satisfaction with the students' participation, engagement, and sportsmanship.

Looking ahead, Swainsboro Middle School is gearing up to host its next tournament on Saturday, September 14. Additionally, the students from Vidalia High School are diligently preparing for the highly competitive Georgia High School Team Chess Championship scheduled for March following their outstanding performances in recent years.
