On Friday, the Toombs County High School Bulldogs made their third consecutive road trip to take on the 3-1 Charlton County Indians. Despite weather conditions that hampered the Bulldogs’ passing game, senior running back Dabyn Wadley stepped up with a dominant ground performance, leading Toombs County to a commanding 56-18 victory.

The Bulldogs took the opening kickoff and marched 51 yards on eight plays, capped by an 8-yard touchdown run from Wadley. After the successful extra point, Toombs took an early 7-0 lead. Charlton County responded with a 9-play, 65-yard drive for a touchdown but missed the extra point, keeping the Bulldogs ahead 7-6.

The Bulldogs’ next drive stalled at the Charlton County 6-yard line, but freshman kicker Lawton Toole, in his first career field goal attempt, nailed a 23-yard kick to extend the lead to 10-6. The Red Bullet defense then forced and recovered a fumble, setting up a 7-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback T.J. Stanley, pushing the lead to 17-6 early in the second quarter.

Charlton County’s air attack struck back with a 19-yard touchdown pass, narrowing the score to 1712. However, the Bulldogs took control for the remainder of the half. Stanley connected twice with senior LaGonza Heyward on touchdown passes of 5 and 21 yards, giving Toombs County a 30-12 lead at halftime.

The second half was all Bulldogs, as Charlton County’s offense was shut down by the Red Bullet defense. The Bulldogs continued to pile on points, with Stanley finding junior Gavin Fletcher for a 25-yard touchdown pass, followed by rushing touchdowns from Alex Scott, Zaylan Davis, and Donterious Mincey. The final score was 56-18.

Wadley led the Bulldogs on the ground with 167 yards on 22 carries.

Up next, the Bulldogs will return home to face Hamilton County, Florida, in The Pit for Homecoming this Friday. Kickoff for the game will be at 7:30 p.m. with Homecoming festivities during halftime of the game.
