Treutlen Falls To Johnson

The Treutlen County High School Vikings football team was on the road last Friday night in Wrightsville to take on the Trojans of Johnson County High School. It was a tough night with the rain and a wet field, and it proved to be costly for the Vikings as they fell to the Trojans, 21-6.

Johnson took the lead with just under six minutes to go in the first quarter of the game when they capped off a drive with a short touchdown run. They tacked on the extra point to lead 7-0.

The Vikings couldn't get much going on their next possession, and disaster struck on the punt as the ball went over the punters head and was recovered by Johnson at the Vikings' 12-yard line. The Trojans were in for their second touchdown just a few plays later. They added the two-point conversion to make the score 15-0 with 2:40 left in the first quarter.

The Trojans added one more touchdown in the first half of the game with just 34 seconds on the clock. They were set up by an interception and a big penalty that put them at the Vikings' 10yard line. They were in the end zone just a few plays later. They missed the extra point, but now lead, 21-0.

In the second half, the Vikings defense kept Johnson out of the end zone, but the offense was never able to get going. They did threaten in the third quarter, but a fumble at the Johnson 10yard line ended that threat.

Treutlen finally got on the board with eight minutes left in the game when quarterback Kylan Page found Jordan Coney for a 72-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was blocked, but Treutlen was on the board, trailing 21- 6.

Treutlen couldn't get anything else going as they lost the game by that score. This week the Vikings will kick off their Region schedule as they travel to Rochelle to take on the Patriots of Wilcox County with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
