Two More Wins For Lady Bulldogs

The Toombs County High School Lady Bulldogs softball team picked up two more wins last week as they won over East Laurens and St. Vincent's. Their game against rival Vidalia on Saturday was postponed due to weather. Toombs is now 12-2 on the season and they are 7-0 in Region action. vs. E. Laurens

The Toombs County Lady Dawgs continued their impressive run on Monday, securing a commanding 13-0 victory against the East Laurens Lady Falcons. Senior pitcher Shay Stringer was the star of the show, delivering a masterful performance from the mound.

Stringer dominated the Lady Falcons’ lineup, striking out 10 batters over four innings of work. She allowed just one hit and one walk, completely shutting down the East Laurens offense. Her stellar outing set the tone for the entire game, giving the Lady Dawgs’ offense plenty of room to operate.

At the plate, Taylor Bland led the charge for Toombs County, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two singles and a double. Bland’s consistency at the plate was a key factor in the Lady Dawgs’ offensive explosion.

Toombs County wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, capitalizing on an East Laurens error in the first inning to take an early lead. The second inning saw the Lady Dawgs break the game open, scoring five runs on two hits. Emerson Powell drew a walk to bring in a run, while Aniston Powell contributed with a sacrifice fly. Casey Cantwell also drove in a run with a groundout.

The offensive onslaught continued in the third inning, with Toombs County piling on six more runs. Bland’s double drove in two runs, while Nora Grace Mercer added a triple. Aniston Powell and Casey Cantwell each contributed RBI hits, and a dropped third strike allowed another run to score.

East Laurens struggled to contain the Lady Dawgs’ potent offense.

Defensively, Toombs County was flawless, committing no errors and turning a double play.

The Toombs County Lady Dawgs continued their impressive season with a commanding 18-1 win over the St. Vincent’s Varsity Saints on Thursday. Senior pitcher Casey Cantwell led the charge with a stellar performance on the mound, striking out 10 batters and allowing just two hits and one run over four innings of work.

Toombs County wasted no time asserting their dominance, getting on the board in the first inning thanks to an error by St. Vincent’s. The Lady Dawgs then unleashed an offensive onslaught that overwhelmed their opponents.

The second inning saw Toombs County explode for five runs on three hits. Nora Grace Mercer, Aniston Powell, Cyleigh Ennis, and Shay Stringer all contributed RBIs during this crucial frame, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

The Lady Dawgs’ bats stayed hot in the third inning, as they piled on seven more runs. Despite recording only one hit in the inning, Toombs County capitalized on St. Vincent’s pitching struggles, drawing walks and getting hit by pitches to drive in runs. Mercer, Cantwell, Ennis, Natalie Quintero, Stringer, and AJ Jarriel all contributed to the scoring barrage.

The offensive showcase continued in the fourth inning with Toombs County adding another five runs. Kylie Carroll, Sage White, Mishi Smith, and Mackenzie Coursey all drove in runs, putting the game well out of reach for St. Vincent’s.

While the Lady Dawgs’ offense was firing on all cylinders, their defense was equally impressive. Toombs County didn’t commit a single error in the field.

The victory improves Toombs County’s already impressive record as they continue to dominate their opponents. As the season progresses, the Toombs County Lady Dawgs continue to prove why they’re the top team in the Region, combining powerful offense, stellar pitching, and rock-solid defense. With performances like this, they’re setting themselves up for a deep playoff run and possibly even greater achievements.

This week the Bulldogs were at Thomson on Monday and at Vidalia on Tuesday, both after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday at Savannah Christian at 6:00 p.m.
