LITERARY ACTIVITIES — Ms. Stanley's 6th grade English students at Wheeler County Middle School are participating in the 40 Book Challenge, an initiative aimed at encouraging a love for reading by challenging students to read 40 books across different genres. To further strengthen their skills, students recently participated in a literacy- themed Escape Room, where they solved puzzles and challenges to reinforce reading comprehension and critical thinking. The class also celebrated their narrative writing skills with a GLOW Publishing Party, showcasing their stories in a fun and interactive way. It's been a fantastic start to the year, and the students' enthusiasm is shining through. L to R: Kadon Berry, JJ Rivera, Kaywon Fowler, Kiden Mackey, Blakely McClelland, Caydence Tobler, Ava Ellis, Holt Stokes, Lily Blount, Kirzah Carswell, Jaylen Turner, and Hector Martinez.

CRITICAL THINKING — This year, Ms. Stanley’s ELA and social studies gifted class at Wheeler County Middle School is diving into hands-on, project-based learning that fosters critical thinking and creativity. Students are currently working on projects like The History of Chocolate, where they explore the rich cultural, economic, and historical significance of this beloved treat. Meanwhile, others are mastering real-world skills through a Vacation Budget and Itinerary project, learning to plan trips within a set budget while considering logistics, time management, and travel destinations. These projects not only enrich their learning but also promote collaboration, research, and problem-solving — skills that will serve them in all areas of life. Our Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) class is thriving. The gifted enrichment class provides opportunities for students to engage in specialized projects, explore unique interests, and take part in discussions that challenge their intellect. Standing, L to R: Kaydn White, King Clements, Makinezi Fowler.

WELCOMING FRIENDS AND COMPETING – Toombs County Action Pact and the Toombs County Senior Center hosted several surrounding senior centers for a large get together on September 5. The event was filled with games and prizes to provide the seniors with some friendly competition, and food trucks were available for lunch. This event is one of many ways in which the Toombs County Senior Center works to provide seniors with activities and socialization. (Shown) Two teams compete in a modified game of soccer.
