The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Lady Crusaders softball team dropped two games last week as they fell to Citizens Christian Academy on Tuesday and Brentwood on Thursday. They did have a bright spot on the week as pitcher Meredith Durden recorded her 600th career strikeout during the game on Thursday against Brentwood.

Vs. CCA The Lady Crusaders dropped a close Region game to CCA. In the second inning, RTCA scored the first run of the game as Railee Thomas drew a bases loaded walk. That was the only run RTCA could get in the inning, though.

RTCA added a run in the third off an RBI double by Annabelle Coe, but CCA tied the game in the bottom of the frame at 2-2. RTCA took the lead back in the top of the fourth inning off an RBI from Maddie Joyner. CCA tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning, and then took the lead, 4-3, in the sixth.

RTCA came through with the tying run in the top of the seventh inning on a hit by Emily Edwards, and then they held in the bottom of the inning to send the game to extra innings.

In the top of the eighth, Joyner gave RTCA the lead with an RBI single, and Amelia Mercer followed that with a fielder’s choice that brought in another run. Coe gave RTCA a three-run lead with an RBI, and things were looking good for the Crusaders heading to the bottom of the eighth.

But in the bottom of the inning, CCA loaded up the bases and did just enough as they scored four runs to steal the win from RTCA, 8-7.

Vs. Brentwood

RTCA scored their only run of the game in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice bunt by Joyner to take a 1-0 lead. Brentwood plated three runs in the bottom of the first as they went on top, 3-1. They scored six more runs in the fourth inning on the way to a 9-1 win over RTCA.

Durden struck out four batters in the game with one of those being her 600th for her career.

This week RTCA took on Pinewood on Tuesday at home after presstime. They will host David Emanuel Academy on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
