vs. Swainsboro

Casey Cantwell was unstoppable in the circle on Tuesday, striking out 10 batters and leading the Toombs County Lady Dawgs to an 8-0 victory over the Swainsboro Lady Tigers in another region contest. Cantwell pitched six innings, surrendering only one hit and no runs while walking just one batter.

The Lady Dawgs broke the game open in the top of the fourth inning, scoring two runs off an error and another run when Nora Grace Mercer singled. That gave Toombs County a comfortable lead, and they never looked back.

The Lady Dawgs’ offense was persistent throughout the night, taking advantage of five walks and getting key hits when needed.

Brinley Miller led Toombs County with two hits in three at-bats, while Shay Stringer, Casey Cantwell, AJ Jarriel, and Aniston Powell each drove in a run. Defensively, the Lady Dawgs were flawless, not committing a single error. vs. W. Laurens

In a battle of strong pitching performances on Wednesday, the Toombs County Lady Dawgs came out on top, defeating West Laurens 3-1 in extra innings. Shay Stringer was outstanding in the circle, recording 16 strikeouts and allowing just one hit and one unearned run over eight innings.

West Laurens broke through first, scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth inning due to a defensive miscue. However, Stringer helped her own cause in the top of the seventh, doubling to tie the game at one and sending it into extra innings.

In the top of the eighth, the Lady Dawgs took control. Nora Grace Mercer delivered a key double, and Aniston Powell hit a sacrifice fly, each driving in a run to give Toombs County a 3-1 lead. Stringer then closed the door in the bottom half, securing the victory.

Mercer led the Lady Dawgs offensively, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Stringer, Mercer, and Powell each contributed an RBI. Defensively, Toombs County turned a double play to back up Stringer’s stellar pitching.

This week Toombs is scheduled to play St. Vincent’s at home on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
