Heritage Wins Over Memorial
The Vidalia Heritage Academy Eagles football team took a win over the Matadors of Memorial Day last Friday night in Savannah.
Memorial held the early lead, 6-0, over VHA, but with less than a minute to play in the first quarter, quarterback Jake Adams scored on a run to tie the game at 6- 6.
Memorial took the lead back less than a minute later in the game on a pass for the touchdown. They added the two-point conversion to hold a 14-6 lead over VHA.
The Eagle quickly answered on a big run by Trevor White to close the lead to 14-12. VHA connected on the twopoint try on a pass from Adams to Dylan Green to tie the game at 14-14.
In the second quarter with just over seven minutes to go, Adams found White to put Heritage on top 20-14. That was the way the score stayed over the remainder of the first half.
In the third quarter, the Matadors tied the game 20-20 on a passing touchdown, but with just over four minutes on the clock, the Eagles were back on top on a rushing touchdown by White. With the two-point conversion on a pass from Adams to Pearson O’Neal, the Eagles were on top, 28-20.
The Eagles increased their lead to 34-20 in the fourth quarter on a pass from Adams to Gray Mc-Neal with six minutes to play. The Eagles added one more touchdown in the game on a run by Green with two minutes to play.
The defense was the story for the Eagles in the second half as they did not allow the Matadors to score a single touchdown to preserve the 40-20 win.
This week the Eagles will host Fullington Academy on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. The game will be held at Montgomery County High School in Mt. Vernon due to the damage from Hurricane Helene to the Eagles’ football field.
