The Vidalia High School Indian Cross Country teams traveled to Toombs County to compete in the Three Rivers Classic meet on Thursday. The meet was originnaly supposed to be held at Jeff Davis High School, but Hurricane Helene destroyed their track, so Toombs picked up the meet.

With exceptional weather, hard work, and grit came exceptional times for the boys and girls teams. As a team, they did what they had to do to climb the Region and State rankings. The boys placed 3rd behind Bleckley County and Valdosta while the girls placed 8th.

VHS had numerous personal best performances on the day. Cash Driggers put in a time of 17.47 and Simon Collins was not too far behind him with a time of 18.21 (shaving off nearly a minute from his previous best). Jordan Johnson also had an epic day as he ran under 19 minutes for the first time, with an 18.48. This is the first meet of the season in which all 5 scoring runners are running under 19 minutes. This team has grown and developed exponentially and has an outstanding shot at making history.

The Lady Indians had an amazing day of racing as Georgia Meredith led the squad with a 6th place finish, a time of 20.07. Judith Hussey, Cannon Sharpton, Alana Claxton, Gabby Hester and Aleah Williams all set new personal best times. Cannon Sharpton had the performance of the day by exceeding her previous best time by over a minute. As a freshman, Cannon has committed to the grueling process and her hard work is paying off. Coach Mandy Godbee said, “I am elated by the performances of both squads! They know that they still have work to do and they are focused on the Region and Sectional meet in November. With such promising performances, they have a shot at making history and I can’t wait to be a part of it!”
