Vikings Pick Up Two Wins

The Treutlen County High School Vikings football team picked up two wins last week as they improved their record to 3-4 overall, and they are 2-1 in Region action. Making up a game from Hurricane Helene the Vikings and the Eagles of Montgomery County High School faced off on Tuesday night in Soperton, and then on Saturday afternoon the Vikings were at Dooly County to take on the Bobcats.

Vs. MCHS

Treutlen took the early lead less than two minutes into the game on a 35-yard run by Roderick Fuller. They added a two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead over the Eagles.

The Eagles came back and tied the game at 8-8 with 4:37 left in the first quarter on a short run by Jay Harris, but another big run by Fuller from 27 yards out put the Vikings back on top, 14-0 with just over two minutes left in the first quarter. Then a big interception by Jordan Coney and an 85-yard return for a touchdown gave the Vikings a 20-8 lead.

With 2:20 left in the first half of the game, MCHS added a touchdown on a pass from Harris to Jaquez Kelly for 43 yards. The Eagles added the two-point conversion to close the lead to 20-16.

With just 19 seconds left in the half, Vikings quarterback Kylan Page found Coney for a 23-yard touchdown pass. That gave Treutlen a 26-16 lead at halftime.

Treutlen added to their lead with 1:30 left in the third quarter on a 5-yard run by Peanut Tobler. That put the Vikings on top, 32-16.

MCHS scored one more time with just 4:40 left in the game on a 9-yard touchdown pass from Harris to Jordyn Patterson. Jamun Coglin added the twopoint conversion to make the score 3224. MCHS did get another chance as the game was coming to an end, but the Vikings held on to take the win, 32-24.

Vs. Dooly

Treutlen again took the early lead as Page found Coney on a 36-yard touchdown pass with 8:39 on the clock in the first quarter. That put Treutlen on top 6-0.

Dooly answered with just over five minutes left in the first quarter on a 35yard touchdown pass. That tied the game at 6-6 after a failed two-point conversion.

Treutlen took the lead back just before the end of the first half. Page capped off a drive with a 3-yard run, and then Tobler added the two-point conversion to give the Vikings a 14-6 lead at halftime.

the quarter in from 25 yards out. The second touchdown came on a short run by Fuller from just two yards out, and the third was on an 8 -yard run by Fuller. Leo Brinson connected on two extra points. Dooly scored on a long, 88-yard pass, in the fourth quarter, but a safety from the Vikings with 6:35 left made the final score of the game, 36-12.

This week Treutlen will be at Hawkinsville on Friday night with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
