With the ordinance now placed in the municipal code book, Mayor John Koon said the City of Soperton will now move forward with the state requirements. Completion is expected by January 2025, at which time the City of Soperton will be officially recognized as a “City of Ethics.”
The council also unanimously approved the Policy and Procedures for Building Permit Ordinance. This ordinance sets regulations for building permits, establishes fees, penalties, enforces compliance with state minimum requirements, and penalties for violations.
In other business, the council considered an application for a business license at the former Circle K location from Shy Marathon. The license was not approved, as only one council member made a motion, which did not meet requirements for approval. This marks the third application for a business license at this location. The first application was denied due to the applicant failing a background check. The second application, made by the same LLC with a different applicant, was approved but later withdrawn. The most recent application came from a new set of individuals.
