Several Montgomery County High School juniors and seniors are learning more about careers within the area through the new Career Exploration elective class, which was launched this semester.
Montgomery County Gifted and Talented Education Teacher Leslie Thomas created this new class to allow students to gain real-world experience in careers that interest them in exchange for volunteering their time to learn about the jobs. Currently, students are working with local community businesses and individuals in the education, healthcare, administration, and childcare fields, as these individuals mentor the students and help to guide them through decisions regarding their future.
Currently, five students are enrolled in the class and are currently serving internships in their field of choice. These students include Junior Hilton Williams, who is interning at Brewton-Parker College; Junior Jamia Wesley, who is interning at the Montgomery County Health Department; Junior Aaralyn Little, who is interning at the Little Eagle Learning Center; Senior Max Barrow, who is interning with the Montgomery County High School Band; and Junior Evan Hardeman, who is interning with the Montgomery County Middle School Agriculture Department.
