Treutlen Loses To Devils
The Treutlen County High School Vikings football team was at Hawkinsville last Friday night to take on the Red Devils. The Vikings played well, but two scores in the third quarter by the Devils were the difference in this game.
Treutlen had the ball to start the game, but shortly into their drive a fumble was recovered by the Devils inside the Vikings' territory. The Devils quickly went down and punched it in for the touchdown less than three minutes into the game. They tacked on the PAT to take a 7-0 lead over Treutlen.
Later in the first quarter, the Vikings were driving, and they found the end zone on a 12yard run by quarterback Kylan Page with just 26 seconds on the clock. Treutlen missed the extra point as they trailed 7- 6.
Early in the second quarter, the Devils scored their second touchdown of the game, this time on a short 2-yard run. They went for the two-point conversion, but were stopped by the Vikings. That made the score 13-6 with 8:34 left in the first half of play.
Neither team found the end zone over the remainder of the first half as the Devils held a 13-6 lead heading to halftime.
In the third quarter of the game, the Devils began to pull away as they capped off a drive with a 3-yard touchdown run, and then later in the quarter added another touchdown on a 2-yard run. That pushed their lead to 27-6 heading to the fourth quarter.
Treutlen found a bit of luck early in the fourth as they had forced the Devils to punt the ball. There was a bad snap that went over the punter's head, which was recovered by Tyrone Jones and returned for a touchdown. Leo Brinson added the PAT to close the lead to 27-13.
But that was all the Vikings could do as they lost the game, 27-13.
Treutlen is now 3-5 on the season and they are 2-2 in Region play. This week Treutlen will be back at home for Homecoming as they host Telfair County with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
