The Lady Indians softball team of Vidalia High School were at the Lady Leopards of Banks County in the Sweet 16 of the GHSA Class A Division 1 State Playoffs last week. The Leopards pulled away in the first game of the best-of-three series to win by the run rule in six innings, but in the second game, the Indians battled and nearly forced a third game but fell by just one run to end the Indians' season. VHS finished the season with a record of 13-16 Game 1

VHS took the lead in the top of the third inning of this game on an RBI single by Gabby Royal. But in the bottom half of the inning, Banks answered with two runs to take the lead over VHS.

Diedra Boston came through with a 2-RBI double in the top of the fifth inning to put VHS back on top, 3-2 over Banks. But the Leopards added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth as they went back in front, 5- 3.

Then in the bottom of the sixth inning, Banks broke the game open with eight more runs, which gave them the win by the run rule, 13-3.

Game 2

Banks jumped out with two runs in the top of the second inning of the second game in the series. They scored on a fielder’s choice and on an error to go ahead, 2-0.

VHS answered with one run in the second inning to close the lead to 2-1, and in the bottom of the third inning, they tied the game at 2-2 on an RBI double by Laylah Brantley.

But Banks plated one more run in the top of the fifth inning and then held on to take the win over VHS, 3-2, ending the Indians season after a trip to the Sweet 16.
