A traffic stop along Interstate 16 in Laurens County led to the arrest of a Vidalia woman on Saturday, October 19, after officers discovered 26 pounds of methamphetamine in the woman’s car.
On October 19, the Georgia State Patrol, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and Laurens County Sheriff’s Office worked together to stop criminal activity and drug trafficking along the roadway. While patrolling with these intentions, officers stopped Tiffany Thomas, of Vidalia, on a routine traffic stop. During this traffic stop, officers became suspicious that Thomas was transporting illegal substances.
After Thomas consented to the search of her vehicle, officers discovered a large box with 12 gallonsize Ziploc bags inside. These bags were filled with a crystal-like substance, which was confirmed to be methamphetamine by a roadside test kit.
According to a Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent, methamphetamine is currently valued at $5,600 per kilo (halfpound) on the streets by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) – an increase from the previous street price of $4,500 per kilo. By this standard, the methamphetamine in Thomas’s possession had a total value of $145,600.
Thomas was arrested by Laurens County sheriff’s deputies and booked into the Laurens County Jail, where she remains without bond. She faces several charges, including following too closely (misdemeanor), a seat belt violation (misdemeanor), trafficking in methamphetamine (felony), and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission or attempt to commit certain crimes (felony).
