The Vidalia High School Indians football team hosted the Hornets of Savannah County Day last Friday night. VHS was down by just one touchdown at halftime, but couldn't get much going in the second half as they fell to the Hornets.

Country Day took the early lead as they connected on an 11-yard pass for the first touchdown of the game just three minutes in. They added the extra point to hold a 7-0 lead over VHS.

On the Indians next possession, they took the ball and drove it down the field on a series of good runs. They capped off the drive with a touchdown run by Sam Sapp with just over four minutes left in the first quarter. Adam Crutchfield added the extra point to tie the game at 7- 7.

Later in the first quarter, the Hornets found the end zone again with less than a minute on the clock on a 25-yard pass play. They added the extra point to lead 14- 7.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Indians started at their 23-yard line, but Vidalia fumbled the ball and it was recovered by Country Day at the VHS 12-yard line. It took just two plays and Savannah was back into the end zone. With the extra point, they led 21-7 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter of the game, the Indians closed the lead to 2114 as they pushed it into the end zone on short run by Kashun Coney. With the extra point by Crutchfield, the score was now 21-14.

In the third quarter with just two minutes to play, the Hornets pulled down an interception and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown. They added the extra point as they held a 31-4 lead over VHS.

The Indians are now 3-6 on the season and are 0-4 in Region play. This week VHS will be at home against Pierce County on Thursday with kickoff at 6:30 p.m.
