The Vidalia Heritage Academy Eagles hosted Westwood Academy last Friday night at Montgomery County High School in Mt. Vernon. It was a close game throughout, but a late touchdown in the final minute of the game gave the Wildcats of Westwood the win.

With 8:31 left in the first quarter, the Wildcats put the first points on the board. They connected on a 25-yard pass for the score. They did not get the twopoint conversion but led 6-0 over the Eagles.

A few nice runs by Heritage by Jake Adams and Trevor White moved the ball across midfield and down to the 30-yard line on their next offensive series. Adams then hit White for a 25-yard touchdown pass with 4:36 left in the first quarter. They tried an extra point, but the kick was blocked to keep the game tied at 6-6.

In the second quarter, with 4:06 left, Adams found Wayne Richardson on pass for the touchdown from 5-yards out to cap off a nice drive. They missed the two-point conversion, but the Eagles led 12-6.

With just 1:02 left in the first half, the Wildcats tied the game on a 32-yard run to tie the game at 1212. They added the twopoint conversion to take a 14-12 lead into halftime.

Late in the third quarter, the Eagles took the lead back from the Wildcats. Adams found Pearson O’Neal for a touchdown pass to take an 18-14 lead. VHA did not get the twopoint conversion.

But the Wildcats wasted no time in answering as they returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown. That quickly gave them the lead back, 20-18 over VHA.

With just over nine minutes left in the game, the Eagles again took the lead on a nice run by White. That put them back on top, 24-20.

But with just over a minute left in the game, the Wildcats found the end zone and were successful on the two-point conversion to go ahead, 28-24 over the Eagles.

VHA was not able to score in the final minute as they fell to the Wildcats, 28-24.

That was the final regular season game for the Eagles. They finished the season with a record of 4-4, and 3-4 in Region play. VHA finished in fifth place in the Region and did not make it into the playoffs.
