VHS Cross Country Wins Region

The Vidalia High School Cross Country teams claimed the Region Championships in both girls and boys events held at Toombs County High School on Saturday of last week.
The GHSA Sectional Cross Country Meet, which showcased a new format this year took place on Saturday at TCHS.
The traditional Region meets were replaced, sending all teams to a Sectional event featuring schools from four different Regions across the state. In this new setup, teams had to finish in the top 12 to qualify for the State Meet in Carrollton this weekend. The GHSA also determined Region winners based on Sectional results, adding an extra layer of competition to the day.
Boys
The boys continued their dominance in the Region winning their third straight Region Championship.
Abrien Anthony led the way for the Indians with a time of 17:51, with Cash Driggers running a time of 18:42.
Girls
The girl’s team won their first Region Championship since 1998. Georgia Meredith was the girl’s individual Region Champion. She came in with a time of 20:14 Both teams head to the State Cross Country Championships this weekend.
The Indians will compete at State in Carrollton this Friday, with the boys’ race set for 12:00 p.m. and the girls’ race at 12:45 p.m.
