Bears Over Indians
The Vidalia High School Indians football team ran into a buzzsaw in their final regular season game of the year as they hosted the Bears of Pierce County. It was also Homecoming for the Indians after having to delay it several weeks due to the hurricane. During halftime of the game, VHS crowned their 2024 Homecoming Queen. The Indians named Lily Grace Maybin as the 2024 Homecoming Queen. As for the game, the Bears scored early and often as they built up a big first half lead. They put their first points on the board halfway through the first quarter on a 50yard run. They added to that lead at the three minute mark on a 70-yard rushing touchdown. That pushed the lead to 12-0. They tacked on the extra point to lead 13-0.
Pierce scored one more time in the first quarter, this time on a 35yard pass completion with less than one minute on the clock. That gave them a 20-0 lead heading to the second quarter.
In the second quarter with just over nine minutes on the clock, the Bears found the end zone again, this time on a 23yard pass. With the extra point they led, 27-0.
They made it 34-0 on a short run later in the second quarter, and then scored one more time with about a minute to play in the half to take a 41-0 lead over the Indians.
With a running clock in the second half, neither team added to the point totals as Pierce went on to win the game, 41- 0.
The Indians finished the regular season with an overall record of 3-7, and they were 0-4 in the Region. But with the power rankings, they were selected as the #32 ranked team to get into the State Playoffs. That gives them the daunting task of taking on the #1 seed, Fannin County. The Indians will have to take the long four plus hour drive to Blue Ridge, GA, on Friday night with the game starting at 7:30 p.m.
