The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has set up a Disaster Recovery Center in Mount Vernon to help citizens get guidance and information on filing appeals and recovering their homes and small businesses from Hurricane Helene.

This Center is set up at the old Montgomery County Road Department, located at 326 West Broad Street in Mount Vernon. The facility is open daily, Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m.

At this location, individuals may get information on applying for disaster assistance, help with their applications and appeals, resources for small businesses, housing advice, and recovery guidance.

“Basically, it’s a place where you can get personalized help, all in one location, to recover from a disaster,” Montgomery County Manager Heather Scott clarified. “The busier this center is, the longer it will stay open. Don’t wait to take advantage of this resource!”

No appointments are needed at the Center and people must come to the location in person to receive assistance. For more information, call (912) 583-2480.
