RTCA Wins Over Flint River; To Play For State Championship
The Crusaders football team of Robert Toombs Christian Academy played in the first round of the GIAA State Playoffs last Friday night at Flint River Academy. It was also the Final 4 of the playoffs as there were only four teams. RTCA came into the game with a 2-7 overall record against the Wildcats of Flint River with a record of 9-0, but RTCA did the unthinkable and dominated the game, winning a spot in the State Championship. Flint River also had a 21-game winning streak going back to last season. RTCA came into the game on a 6-game losing streak.
RTCA's defense bent over the game but didn't break as they allowed 258 rushing yards to the Wildcats, but only allowed six points in the game. That was the key to the win for the Crusaders. RTCA amassed 393 yards on the ground on their way to the win, with Christian Mixon rushing for 133 and Jayden Toole going for 102 yards. Drew Edwards added 80 yards, and Bray Williamson went for 78 yards.
RTCA took the early lead in the game as they scored twice in the first half to take a 14-0 lead into halftime.
The Crusaders added another touchdown with nine minutes to go in the third quarter to push their lead to 21-0, and then scored one more time just before the end of the third to take a 28-0 lead into the fourth.
The Wildcats finally got on the board in the fourth quarter, but it was not near enough as RTCA took the win, 28-6.
With that win RTCA will move on to play Edmund Burke for the State Championship on Friday, November 22, at Georgia Southern University at 5:00 p.m.
