Fannin Defeats VHS Indians

The Vidalia High School Indians football team had the daunting task of taking on the #1 seed in the GHSA State Playoffs last week in the first round. The Indians took the long drive up to Blue Ridge, GA, to face off with the Rebels of Fannin County. The Indians entered the game with a record of 3-7, while Fannin came into the game 10-0 on the season.

The Rebels took the early lead with two touchdowns in the first quarter of the game. That put them on top 14-0 over the Indians. In the second quarter after an Indian punt, the Rebels quickly moved the ball down the field on a long run and then a big pass to the 4-yard line of VHS. With just over 10 minutes to play in the first half, Fannin punched it in for their third touchdown of the game. They added the extra point to take a 21-0 lead over VHS.

On the Indians' next possession, they were moving the ball well, but Fannin came up with an interception at their own 9-yard line to stop VHS. The Rebels then broke a 65-yard run for a touchdown just two minutes later. With the extra point, they took a 28-0 lead over the Indians.

In the third quarter, the Rebels added to their lead with a rushing touchdown with seven minutes left on the clock. With the PAT, they led 35-0 over VHS. Fannin scored one more time after recovering a fumble at the VHS 31-yard line. They moved the ball down the field and took it in from 5 yards out for the score. They missed the extra point, but were on top 41-0.

VHS scored their only touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter with just over five minutes left to play. VHS made the extra point, but were down, 41-7.

That was the way the game ended with Fannin taking the win. VHS finished the season with a record of 3-8.
