Lady Barons Split Games

The Brewton-Parker College Lady Barons basketball team played two games last week. They started off the week in an exhibition against Valdosta State's Lady Blaze, and finished against the Lady Skyhawks of Point University. BPC dropped their game to the Blaze, but got their first conference win of the young season over the Skyhawks. vs. Valdosta

In an exhibition basketball event held on November 12, 2024, at The Complex in Valdosta, GA, the Brewton-Parker Lady Barons faced a challenging contest against the Valdosta St. Blaze, ending with a final score of 47-89 in favor of the Blaze.

The Barons, under the guidance of Coach Steve Edwards, utilized this exhibition as a platform to give valuable court time to their newer players against the accomplished D2 program of Valdosta St. Coach Edwards expressed optimism despite the tough game, 'Tonight was an opportunity for us to play a lot of our young players. VSU is a really good D2 program and we always look forward to the experience. We were able to see some good things today. We look forward to building positives. We open up conference at home Thursday. We will be ready to go!'

Leading the scoring for Brewton-Parker was Andranique Stewart with 16 points and 12 rebounds, alongside Chasity Degale who added 14 points. Other notable performances included Sydney Beasley with a well-rounded effort of 2 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals.

At halftime, the score reflected the dominance of the Blaze with a 23-51 lead, and despite efforts from the Barons, the game concluded 47-89. The team’s record now stands at 2-3 as they prepare for their next challenge against Point University at Gillis Gymnasium on November 14, 2024. vs. Point

The Brewton-Parker Lady Barons started conference play by hosting the Point University Lady Skyhawks, dominating the game from start to finish. The Lady Barons got an early lead in the first three minutes of the first quarter and never gave it up. The Lady Barons ran away with the game with a commanding win of 8652 over Point to start conference play off with a win. The win brings the Lady Barons back to .500 on the season, and they plan to use the momentum from their win in their future games.

Barons head coach Steve Edwards shared his feelings on the impressive victory: 'We have been working really hard to be a good defensive team. We have improved, but we still have a long way to go. We played a solid game at home and want to build on tonight,' The Lady Barons feel confident in their ability to grow as the season continues.

Leading Brewton-Parker's scoring was a combination of dominating performances from Chasity Degale and Destanee Wright. Chastity scored 18 points and 13 rebounds and added two blocks and a steal for the night, and Destanee scored 18 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals. The Lady Barons dominated the glass, rebounding the Lady Skyhawks.

At halftime, the score reflected the Lady Barons' dominance, as they led 39-24. Coming out of the break, the Lady Barons kept the pressure going to have one of the best third quarters of their season, scoring 25 to carry them to victory. The Lady Barons get back on the court against Spartanburg Methodist College on Monday, November 18, at Gillis Gymnasium.
