It was an eventful morning in Montgomery County High School Agriculture Teacher Brittany Braddy’s class on Wednesday, November 13, as Braddy was surprised with the monthly Greater Vidalia Chamber Super Star Teacher award. The Super Star Teacher award is an initiative the Chamber began in January to honor the extraordinary teachers who go above and beyond the call of duty, and ultimately, impact lives. The program is overseen by Chamber Director of Operations Amber O’Connor, who spoke on the opportunity.

“The Chamber is excited to be able to offer this program to our community! We couldn’t think of a more deserving group of professionals in our workplace to be recognized for their dedication to students and their community,” she remarked. “A Super Star Teacher demonstrates excellence in leadership in their classroom along with motivation for their students. They show a high level of commitment to not only their students but their community.”

Nominations for the award are collected by the Chamber every month, then reviewed by monthly sponsors to select a winner, who is presented with the award and prizes during the school day. This month’s presentation was sponsored by Smith’s Roll Offs and Dermatology Associates.

During the presentation, Greater Vidalia Chamber Board Member Nissa Mitchell shared the nomination which an anonymous member of the community submitted about Braddy. The nomination read:

Ms. Braddy is the epitome of a great teacher, advisor, and community leader. She strives to be versatile in and out of the classroom to make all MCHS (Montgomery County High School) students feel welcome. Ms. Braddy works hard to advocate for her kids, as well as provide them with a multitude of opportunities to grow and learn. For example, Ms. Braddy travels with her students to different FFA (Future Farmers of America) competitions, conferences, and workships to ensure that students in Montgomery County are allowed to go outside of their comfort zones to explore their passions – whether that be floral design, forestry management, or leadership development. She is always on the road getting a student to their next big opportunity for personal and career development, meaning that Ms. Braddy is truly there every step of the way for her students. Because of Ms. Braddy’s advisory role, students have had the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C., for the Washington Leadership Conference; Indianapolis, Indiana, for the National FFA Convention; and various other places across the state of Georgia. Ms. Braddy encourages her students to be the best that they can be and goes above and beyond to provide for her students, her school, and her community. MCHS and the Greater Vidalia area are absolutely blessed to have a teacher like Ms. Braddy investing in the future of our students in Montgomery County.

Montgomery County High School Principal Will Adams also spoke about Braddy and the award. “We would like to congratulate Ms. Brittany Braddy for winning the Super Star Teacher award from the Greater Vidalia Chamber. She does an awesome job with our students as far as providing excellent learning opportunities and taking them all across the country and giving them excellent exposure to life in the agriculture industry,” he commented. “Thank you for all you do, Ms. Braddy!” Nominations have already closed for the December Super Star Teacher award, which will be announced next month.
