large amount of trees and debris still down along the roadways from Hurricane Helene, the municipality and community members have come together to host an all-day festival to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.

This event will feature several vendors selling both food and arts and crafts, kids activities, local entertainment, live music, and more. The celebration will conclude at 6 p.m., as the city officially lights a Christmas tree to signify the beginning of the season.

Not too far down the road, the city of Alston will also hold their official Christmas Tree Lighting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, at the city caboose found in the center of the town. Normally, the city hosts a full-day festival prior to the tree lighting; yet, the destruction of Hurricane Helene has left the municipality unable to host the total celebration. Nevertheless, members of the public are encouraged to attend the event, which will feature Christmas carols and a visit from Old Saint Nick himself. Attendees are also asked to bring an ornament that represents themselves or their families to hang on the city Christmas tree, so that the festivity may include all community members.

Just across the county line, the city of Soperton will share its own Christmas cheer, as the municipality lights their Christmas Tree in a ceremony from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, in the city’s downtown area. This event will feature food vendors, music, hot chocolate, and a visit from Santa Claus.

A few days later, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, the city of Vidalia will officially kick off their Christmas season with the annual Christmas Tree lighting at Ronnie A. Dixon Park. This event will feature a very festive light display, local entertainment, live music, and the fan-favorite Santa’s Toy Drop, where kids can catch toys from Old Saint Nick after the tree is lit.

Several events will continue throughout the coming weeks to celebrate the Christmas season, and will be shared weekly in The Advance.
