Tip Off Tourney At VHS

The Vidalia High School Indians basketball teams kicked off their season with the STC Tip Off Tournament's first day on Saturday of last week. Both VHS teams played well as they got wins over the Pirates of Appling County. The girls pulled out a thrilling, 2-point victory, while the boys ran away with their win.

Girls

In the first quarter of the game, Appling took the early lead over the Lady Indians. They were up 11-7 at the end of the first, and pulled away in the second to take a commanding lead at halftime, 28-14.

But in the second half of the game, the Lady Indians came storming back. In the third, VHS outscored Appling 20-12 to close the lead to 40-34.

Then in the fourth quarter, VHS outscored Appling 15-7 on the way to a 49-47 win over the Lady Pirates. Late in the game VHS got a big three-pointer from Corianna Warner and then tied the game at 44-44 on a basket by Tori Polke. Polke put VHS on top, 46-44, and she added a couple of late free throws to give the Indians the win.

Boys

The Vidalia Indians kicked off their basketball season with a bang, decisively defeating the Appling County Pirates 8542 in a thrilling non-league matchup on Saturday. The team showcased impressive teamwork and individual talent, setting a strong tone for the season ahead.

Leading the charge for the Indians was Rashad Brown, who nearly achieved a double-double with 17 points and 9 rebounds. His presence in the paint was crucial for controlling the game. Jayon Coleman shone brightly as well, racking up an impressive 22 points. The chemistry among the players was evident as they executed plays with precision and confidence.

The Indians’ defense was equally commendable, effectively limiting the Pirates’ scoring opportunities. With a solid performance like this, the team looks poised for a promising season.

VHS led the game 31-26 at halftime, and then pulled away in the second half. VHS pushed their lead to 59-37 by the end of the third and then took the win, 85-42.

This week the Indians finished off the Tip Off Tournament on Tuesday against Screven County after presstime. They will be back in action Saturday at home against Bleckley County with games beginning at noon.
