The Montgomery County Board of Education recognized Montgomery County Elementary School Math Teacher Kimberly Yawn during the Board’s meeting on Monday, November 18, for receiving the Excellence in Teaching of Math Award.
The Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics recognizes three teachers – one from elementary, middle, and high school levels – each year with the Excellence in Teaching of Math Award, which recognizes the teacher’s success and growth in teaching the subject. Candidates for the award must have taught math for at least 3 years and are nominated by their peers.
Yawn was presented with the award for her work with elementary school students during the Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics Conference at Rock Eagle.
During the recognition at the board meeting, Montgomery County Elementary School Principal Candice Keen spoke about Yawn. “She does an excellent job of building relationships with her students,” Keen emphasized. “It is very evident whenever you walk into her classroom. She goes above and beyond to build those relationships and to make math fun. She definitely deserves the credit of this award.”
The Board congratulated Yawn on the honor and thanked her for her work within the district.
