ment. Wayne Blount played baseball and football for the Indians, and was part of the 1969 State Championship football team. He was All-State in 1970. He also played basketball and made it to the State Semifinals in 1969. He was voted most athletic his senior year, and went on to play basketball at Georgia Southwestern College.
Steve Waugh was a star on the golf team at VHS and helped lead them to two State Championships. He was the Low Medalist in 1972, and came in second in 1973. He played collegiately at Georgia Southern College and played in three NCAA National Championships. He qualified for two USGA National Amateur Championships and went on to play professionally for two years, became a teaching pro at several exclusive golf courses around the southeast, and earned many accolades from the USGA Professional Orginazation.
Bobby Hodge was a big man on the football field for the Indians and was selected All-State on the line. He was also a letterman in track in the shot put and discus. He went on to play at GA Tech on the defensive line and was an anchor for that unit during his three years there.
David Hodge was a star on the football team at VHS and was part of the basketball team that played for the State Championship in 1982. He also lettered in track and set the school record in the 4×400 relay. He went on to play football for Erk Russell at Georgia Southern and was part of two National Championship team with the Eagles. He came back to help coach at VHS and was the first wrestling coach for the Indians.
Micha Wise lettered in four sports at VHS, track, football, cross country, and basketball. He was a star in track where he won the State Championship in triple jump three years in a row, and still holds the school record in the event.
Veronica Nails was a three-sport athlete at VHS. She was second in the state in shot put her senior year in track, helped lead the softball team to a State Championship in 1986, and was a dominant post player for the basketball team, leading them in scoring for two years. She went on to play basketball for Albany State, and after graduating has been a basketball coach around the area for many years.
Joe Hall lettered in basketball, football, and track. He won the State Championship in high jump, was the High Point Winner his junior and senior year in the State Meet. He averaged double figures scoring for the basketball team, and in football rushed for over 2,500 yards in his career. He was the football team MVP his senior year and was 2nd team Coastal Empire Team.
Jason Palmer was a three-sport athlete for the Indians, and a star on the football team. He did win the Region Title in the 100m dash in track and was the top hitter on the baseball team his junior and senior year. In football, he was selected to the All-State Team and was named as the Atlanta Journal Constitution Super 11 his senior year. He signed to play football for UGA, but had his career cut short by an injury.
Bill Sharpton was the quarterback on the Region Champion football team, and was a member of the 1995 State Championship baseball team. As a pitcher, he was 17-5 with 222 strikeouts. He was selected to the Coastal Empire Team, All-Middle Georgia Team, Macon Telegraph Player of the Year, and the Dugout Club All-Star Team. He went on to play for UGA and was the winning pitcher in the Super Regionals to help get his team to the College World Series.
This Hall of Fame Ceremony will take place in the Vidalia High School Theatre and will continue the tradition established by the first two classes of inductees.
Additionally, the late Jack Sasser Sr., a devoted Indian Booster who passed away in 2007, will receive posthumous recognition as a VHS Legacy Inductee. The induction ceremony will commence at 5:30 p.m. in the VHS Theatre, and all supporters of the Indian community are warmly invited to attend and celebrate these remarkable achievements and individuals.
