Eagles On The Hardcourt
The Eagles basketball teams of Montgomery County High School faced off with the Tigers of Claxton at home last Tuesday, and then were at Wilcox County on Friday. The Lady Eagles dropped both of their games, but the boys picked up a win over Wilcox in their first Region game of the season.
Girls vs. Claxton
The girls’ game against Claxton was a close one that came down to the final quarter. MCHS was in front 9-7 after a low scoring first quarter. In the second, Claxton closed in on the lead, but MCHS held onto a, 21-20, lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, neither team could get much going as MCHS was up, 26-25, heading to the fourth quarter. In the fourth, though, Claxton went on a run as they took the lead and went on to win the game, 3733.
MCHS was led by Trinity Wideman with 18 points.
Boys vs. Claxton
This game was all Claxton as they pulled away from MCHS. In the first quarter, the Tigers were on top, 17-11, but they extended that lead in the second as they held a 32-20 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, the Tigers blew the game open as they outscored MCHS, 30-15. That gave them a 62-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Claxton went on to win the game, 80-46, over the Eagles.
MCHS was led by Jayden Harris with 15 points with Jaquez Kelly adding 10 in the loss.
Girls vs. Wilcox
In the girls’ game, the Lady Patriots of Wilcox rolled to a win over MCHS. Wilcox took the win, 63-16, over the Lady Eagles.
Boys vs. Wilcox
The boys’ game was close, but MCHS pulled out the win over the Patriots. The Eagles were on top, 35-18, in the third quarter, but Wilcox began to close in on MCHS. Heading to the fourth, the score was 3722, but by the halfway mark in the quarter the Patriots had closed that lead to 43-34.
MCHS held on to take the win over Wilcox, 48- 40.
The Eagles have a busy week this week as they hosted Wilkinson County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday at home against Johnson County at 6:00 p.m., and then will host Dooly County on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
