Gators Over VHS Indians

The Indian basketball teams of Vidalia High School hosted the Gators of Ware County last Tuesday. The Lady Indians lost a tough one to the Lady Gators, and the boys played well but also fell to Ware.

Girls vs. Ware

It was a big first quarter for Ware that set the tone for the game. Ware jumped out to a 16-6 lead in the first quarter and pushed that lead to 35-17 by the end of the first half.

In the third quarter, Ware outscored VHS 19-8 as they took a 54-25 lead into the fourth. In the fourth, the Indians did make a run, but Ware took the win, 60-41. In the loss, several Lady Indians contributed on both ends of the floor. Senior Guard Hannah Nichols led the way with 12 points, Junior Center Takaiyah Bacon finished the night with 10 pts, 8 reb, and 4 blocks.

Boys vs. Ware

In a tough home loss for the Vidalia Indians, they were defeated by Ware County with a final score of 69-60. The game was closely contested throughout, with Ware County holding a slight edge at halftime, leading 28- 26.

Jayon Coleman was the standout player for Vidalia, leading all scorers with an impressive 36 points. Coleman had a phenomenal shooting performance, knocking down 6 three-pointers and going a solid 10-for-12 from the free-throw line. He also contributed on the glass, finishing with 8 rebounds. Joshtin Troupe provided solid support, scoring 11 points and dishing out 4 assists, helping keep the offense flowing.

Despite a strong individual performance from Coleman, Vidalia struggled to maintain momentum in the second half as Ware County extended their lead.

This week VHS was at Savannah Country Day on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday with the Tigers of Swainsboro coming to town at 6:00 p.m. VHS will then host Dodge County on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
