Cantwell & Powell Sign To Play College Softball
Last Wednesday at Toombs County High School, two standout softball players signed their letters of intent to play at the next level. Casey Cantwell and Aniston Powell put pen to paper as they signed to play college softball.
Casey Cantwell, the 2024 Region 3, Single-A Player of the Year, and First Team All-State honoree, will continue her academic and athletic career at the University of South Carolina Beaufort. Her impressive accomplishments on the field and in the classroom have paved the way for this exciting opportunity.
Cantwell said, “It means a lot to me to have this opportunity. To get to continue to play softball was a dream of mine, and all of the coaches and people that have helped me along way, I just have to say thank you. I have always wanted to go out of state to play, and just loved the coaches and it just clicked at USCB. I also have to thank all of my teammates for this great run, my family, and Coach Brant and JT Thomas for all they have done over the years.”
Aniston Powell, another key contributor to the Lady Dawgs’ success, has signed with Brewton-Parker College, where she will bring her talent and dedication to the next level. Powell was second on the team in RBI's and was a key in the batting lineup for the Bulldogs.
Powell said, “I didn't think Brewton-Parker was going to be my pick, but I just loved the atmosphere and the coaches there. It is close to home as well, and I want to be able to come back to TCHS and watch my sister finish off her senior year. I have to thank my mom, dad, sister, all of my team, and my coaches for pushing me to be my best.”
Both Casey and Aniston have been integral members of the Toombs County softball program, not just for their remarkable skills but also for their leadership and impact on and off the field. They leave behind a legacy that will inspire future players for years to come. Head Coach Hayne Brant stated, “Casey and Aniston were both four year starters for us. They have had a huge impact on our team and our program. They both work so hard for themselves and for this team and I'm just super excited to see them get this opportunity to go play at the next level.”
