It was a busy week for the Vidalia High School Indians basketball teams as they traveled to Savannah Country Day on Tuesday, hosted the Tigers of Swainsboro on Friday, and then had Dodge County come to town on Saturday. The Lady Indians won all three of their games, with the boys just losing their game against Savannah.

Girls vs. Savannah

It was a close game down the stretch, but the Lady Indians did just enough to hold off a second half run from the Lady Hornets to get the win.

VHS came out of the gate with the hot hand as they took a 12-7 lead in the first quarter, and pushed that to 23-12 by the end of the first half.

In the third quarter, though, the Hornets came storming back as they outscored VHS, 14-6, to close the Indians' lead to 29-26.

In the fourth quarter, both teams kept pace as VHS held onto their three-point lead to take the win, 4239. This was the first Region game of the season for VHS and gives them a 1-0 start.

Boys vs. Savannah

The Vidalia Indians boys’ basketball team suffered a tough 38-36 loss at the hands of Savannah Country Day in their first Region game of the season. Despite holding a commanding 17-point lead in the third quarter, the Indians were unable to hold on as the Hornets mounted a strong comeback in the final moments of the game.

Jayon Coleman led the way for Vidalia, scoring a team-high 16 points in the contest. His performance helped the Indians build their significant lead, but Savannah Country Day fought back in the latter half, tightening up their defense and capitalizing on key turnovers.

Girls vs. Swainsboro

In spite of the slow start, the Lady Indians found their energy in the late 2nd quarter leading into the 2nd half. Big game from Senior Hannah Nichols, who finished with 18 points despite having to sit out the fourth quar- continued from page

The Lady Indians found themselves in a 13-4 hole after the first quarter, but came back in the second to close the lead to 27-24 by halftime.

In the third, VHS went on a run as they took the lead and pulled away to a 41-33 lead heading to the fourth quarter. VHS extended their lead in the fourth on the way to a 57-41 victory over the Lady Tigers.

Boys vs. Swainsboro

It was a run away win for the Indians over the Tigers in the boys' game. It was close in the first quarter as VHS was up 13-10 at the buzzer, but in the second, they began to pour it on and pull away. VHS outscored Swainsboro, 22-9, in the second to push their lead to 35-19 at halftime.

In the third, VHS extended their lead to 5831, and they went on to win the game 81-36.

Leading the charge offensively was senior Jayon Coleman, who delivered a stellar performance with 25 points, showing off his scoring ability and leadership throughout the game. Rashad Brown also had a strong outing, contributing 21 points to help fuel the Indians’ dominant performance. Sophomore Bernard Brewton and freshman Brycen Burns each added 10 points, rounding out the four players in double figures for Vidalia.

Girls vs. Dodge

It was a close battle between the two Lady Indian teams with Dodge County in town on Saturday. VHS held a onepoint, 9-8, lead at the end of the first quarter, but in the second they went on a run to take a 23-15 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Vidalia maintanied their lead and were up 42-31 going to the fourth quarter. But in the fourth, Dodge came back and had it to just three points at 42-39, and then as time was winding down, Dodge was within one, 51-50. But VHS held on and took the win, 59-56.

Vidalia benefited from another big game from Hannah Nichols, who finished the afternoon with 19 points.

Boys vs. Dodge

The Vidalia Indians continued their strong start to the season with a convincing 60-51 victory over Dodge County on Saturday night. The win moves the Indians to 5-2 overall as they continue to build momentum heading into the heart of their region schedule.

It was a big first quarter for VHS that was the difference in the game. VHS came out and took a 24-16 lead in the first quarter of the game.

The Indians’ fullcourt pressure gave Dodge fits throughout the game, disrupting their offensive flow and forcing turnovers. The aggressive defense led to fast-break opportunities and helped the Indians build an early lead.

VHS extended their lead to 40-28 by the end of the first half. In the third quarter, both teams went ice cold as neither could get their shots to fall. Heading to the fourth, VHS led, 46-34. Vidalia held on and took the win over Dodge, 6051.

Offensively, Jayon Coleman was once again the standout for Vidalia, scoring 25 points to lead all scorers. Rashad Brown added 21 points, providing a strong scoring punch alongside Coleman. The two dynamic players were key in the Indians’ offensive attack, helping to extend the lead as Vidalia built a 17-point advantage in the second half.

Dodge County battled back at times, but Vidalia’s defense and balanced scoring were too much to overcome. The Indians’ ability to create turnovers and score in transition was a big factor in the win, allowing them to stay in control throughout the game.

This week VHS hosted Savannah Christian on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday at Tattnall County at 6:00 p.m., and then on Saturday, they will be at Bleckley County at noon.
