RTCA Boys Win Over Pinewood

It was a tough week for the Crusader basketball teams of Robert Toombs Christian Academy as they took on Pinewood Christian and Frederica Academy last week. On Friday the Crusaders split with the Patriots in Bellville with the boys getting the only win of the week for RTCA. On Saturday against the Knights of Frederica, both RTCA teams fell.

Girls vs. Pinewood

It was back and forth in the first half of the game. The Lady Crusaders went on an early run to take the lead, but they were tied at the end of the first quarter, 14-14, In the second quarter after Pinewood had gone on top, RTCA went on another run to take the lead, and they led at halftime, 2620.

But in the second half, RTCA went cold as they mustered just 10 more points in the game. RTCA was still on top at the end of the third quarter, 31-28, but in the fourth Pinewood came back to win the game, 3936.

Meredith Durden led the way with 11 points and 10 rebounds, with Amelia Mercer adding 10 points in the loss.

Boys vs. Pinewood

RTCA picked up their only win of the week in the boys’ game against the Patriots. Despite one Patriot scoring 27 points, RTCA held everyone else on the team in check on the way to a 53-41 victory.

RTCA was out to a 15-8 lead in the first and pushed that to 21-11 in the second. RTCA held off Pinewood in the second half to get the win. continued from page

Girls vs. Frederica

RTCA came out of the gate cold and scored just 3 points in the first quarter. Frederica took advantage and were ahead 13-3 at the end of the first. In the second, RTCA played better, but by halftime, the score was, 2412, with the Lady Knights on top.

In the third, Frederica blew the game open, pushing their lead to 5423. Frederica went on to win the game, 58-33.

RTCA was led by Mercer with 19 points.

Against Frederica, the Crusaders were outmatched. The Knights pulled away early and got the win over RTCA, 7337.

This week RTCA was at Bulloch Academy on Monday, and hosted John Hancock on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday and Saturday in the Stratford Academy Tournament. RTCA will play at noon on Friday against Westfield School and then on Saturday they will take on Southland Academy starting at 1:00 p.m.
