Southeastern Technical College (STC) graduated its 2024 Radiologic Technology class on December 5, 2024, in a ceremony held at Toombs Auditorium on the Vidalia campus.
Ten students were recognized as Radiologic Technology Associate of Applied Science Degree graduates: Alexa Atkins and Autumn Besch of Appling County, Emma Braddy, Leezett Castro, Krislyn Freeman, Lily Mosley, and Lasondra Nicole Wells of Toombs County, Alyson Crawford of Wheeler County, Mckenzie Davis of Tattnall County, and Lizbeth Varela of Tattnall County.
Radiologic Technology Program Director Tara Powell highlighted the dedication and effort the graduates invested in the program, which included extensive handson practical experience. The graduates successfully completed their academic coursework, clinical education hours, and clinical competency evaluations. Tara Powell and Keegan Spell teach the program.
'Two years ago, these students chose to embark on an extraordinary journey that would shape their lives,' said Mrs. Powell. 'They've dedicated themselves to the betterment of their patients.'
Hayden Hughes of Memorial Health Meadows Hospital served as the guest speaker. Mrs. Powell awarded graduates their pins.
During the ceremony, students were also recognized for particular academic achievement. Mckenzie Davis was named Most Outstanding Student Technologist, an honor the program's clinical affiliates voted on. The Award of Excellence in Academic Achievement went to Autumn Besch for having the highest grade point average.
Besch thanked classmates, family, friends, faculty, and clinical sites for unwavering support and said, 'Nothing could have prepared me for the intensity and demand of the Radiologic Technology Program. The long hours of studying, the stressful exams, the long clinic hours, and even times we considered giving up – we supported each other. I'm so proud of what we've accomplished together. I know our futures are bright, and I hope I get the chance to work with some of you again.'
Students, in turn, awarded Michelle McCumbers for Most Outstanding Clinical Instructor, Gary Gibbs for Most Outstanding Clinical Staff Technologist, and Jeff Davis Hospital for Most Outstanding Clinical Education Site.
