This past weekend, Vidalia High School hosted the Annual Onion City Invitational, a premier wrestling event that brought together 15 high schools from the surrounding area for two days of intense competition. Due to renovations at the Ralph Parsons Gymnasium, the event was held at Brewton-Parker College, providing a unique setting for wrestlers to showcase their skills.
The competition culminated on Saturday, with several standout performances from Vidalia wrestlers, who proved their dominance in various weight classes.
The Vidalia Indians had an impressive showing, with multiple wrestlers placing in the top three of their respective divisions: Deuce Hightower led the charge for Vidalia, capturing 1st place in the 165-pound division. Hightower’s dominant performances throughout continued from page

Jack Godbee also earned a 1st place finish, emerging victorious in the 190-pound division. Godbee’s technical prowess and determination were on full display as he battled his way to the top.
Levi Palmer showed grit and determination to finish in 3rd place in the heavyweight division. Palmer’s resilience on the mat helped secure a solid finish in a physically demanding weight class.
TJ Scott earned a 3rd place finish in the highly competitive 106-pound division. His quickness and aggressive style were key factors in his impressive run at the Invitational.
In the girls’ division, Messiah Salem stood out with a dominant performance, earning 1st place. Her hard work and dedication paid off, as she captured the championship in her weight class.
With the Onion City Invitational now in the books, the Vidalia Indians will quickly turn their attention to their next challenge. This week, they will travel to Dublin to take part in the annual Shamrock Shuffle, a popular tournament that features some of the best high school wrestling talent in the region.
The Onion City Invitational was a huge success, and Vidalia High School’s wrestling team proved that they are a force to be reckoned with. With talented wrestlers like Deuce Hightower, Jack Godbee, Levi Palmer, TJ Scott, and Messiah Salem leading the way, the Indians are poised for an exciting rest of the season.
