The City of Vidalia adopted their annual operating budget for 2025 on Monday, December 9, during the regular monthly meeting of the Vidalia City Council.

Many aspects of this year’s budget are the same as the operating budget used this year; however, City Manager Josh Beck spoke on two major differences within the budget during the Vidalia City Council meeting on Monday, November 11.

According to Beck, the 2025 budget features an additional $200,000 in the Water and Sewer Fund to be used for projects as a result of the revenue generated by the utility rates, which were raised last year. “This translates to about 1,000 linear feet of water projects and 1,000 linear feet of sewer projects per year,” Beck explained. “This is the first time – to my knowledge – that the water and sewer fund can create this type of improvement.”

Beck also said that funding had been added to the operating budget to increase the number of police officers employed by the Vidalia Police Department from 32 total officers to 36 approved officers.

The City held a public hearing to listen to citizens’ concerns or comments about the budget on December 2. The budget remained available for review at the city offices within the Vidalia Municipal Annex for several days before being unanimously approved by the council.
