The Toombs County High School wrestlers ended the 2024 calendar year scouring the southeast for the best competition. The MatDawgs tested themselves first by traveling to Brunswick to dual two of the top ranked 5A programs in the state, Glynn Academy (5A #2) and Brunswick (5A #5). In a scrappy battle, the MatDawgs were able to come out on top against Brunswick, 37-27. The Mat-Dawgs ended the night with a loss against Glynn Academy, 46-18.

Coach Allen praised his team’s effort during the duals saying, “These are two very good programs that I have a lot of respect for their coaches and their athletes. Every event we have attended this year has been very strategically scheduled to test our wrestlers and this was no different. The goal has never been to go undefeated throughout the season, the goal is to test our guys to their max. We’ve done that this season so far and we did that tonight. We wrestled two very good teams, came away with one win and one loss. Now back to the drawing board and tweak some things to make a run for a State Title!”
